Welcome to Hulme Hall Junior Learning Centre

The Junior Learning Centre offers an opportunity to learn in an exciting and innovative educational setting.

We practise small group teaching that focuses on each child and uses their areas of interest to engage them in productive learning. We recognise that children develop at their own rate and therefore teach them according to their ability rather than their age or year group, setting work that is appropriately challenging so that every child reaches his or her potential.

This belief is central to our planning, resulting in a tailor-made, responsive curriculum designed to stimulate and encourage a lifelong love of learning.

Our open-plan, spacious rooms lend themselves to multi-sensory learning, providing a warm and vibrant environment that celebrates achievement and success.

Helping your child

Supporting Reading at Home

Research proves that children who enjoy reading do better at school in all subjects. Not only does it increase literacy but it helps build a strong and loving relationship between parents and children. Reading should be a pleasurable experience, so find a place to sit together that suits you both and make time to talk about the book as well as reading it.

Try to read at least once a day, encouraging your child to predict what might happen next and getting them to sound out or think about what they are reading. By asking them to retell the story you have shared you will be able to tell how much they have understood. Sharing a story at bedtime can also foster a love of books – if your child sees you reading, they will be more likely to pick up a book themselves!

Homework

Homework will be set on Friday each week and is handed in the following Wednesday.
If you have any questions regarding the homework for the week, please do not hesitate to ask Mr Thorley.

Transition

We are lucky to be able to utilise the expertise of the Senior School staff for our Music, Computing, and PE curriculum. This allows the children to become familiar with both the staff and layout of the school, building relationships prior to entry into our Senior School.

Our close working relationship with the Senior staff ensure that children in the JLC are well prepared for their transition. Each pupil will spend a number of days in the Senior School familiarising themselves with their surroundings whilst having a taste of different subjects.

Pupils will continue to receive excellent support from the Pastoral Team once they make the transition to Senior School to ensure they remain happy and confident.
